June 12

We are working on a plan to revise our processes at the Center once we are able to fully open and allow guests in. Many more volunteers will be needed as the volumes of guests increases; I’ll be looking for people that can share a few hours with us, typically once a week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings. I’ve started a list of people interested in volunteering; let me know if you’d like to be included.

As I think about the work we do as volunteers and the people we serve, I recalled a prayer one of my volunteers brought to my attention a few years ago. Nowadays, ‘mindfulness’ is a hot topic online and in magazines. I think this prayer speaks to the mindfulness we need as we serve others

A Prayer to be Merciful

Help me, O Lord, that my eyes may be merciful, so that I may

never suspect or judge from appearances, but look for

what is beautiful in my neighbor’s soul.

Help me, O Lord, that my ears may be merciful, so that

I may give heed to my neighbor’s needs.

Help me, O Lord, that my tongue may be merciful,

so that I never speak negatively of my neighbor.

Help me, O Lord, that my hands may be merciful and filled

with good deeds, so that I might only do good to my neighbor.

Help me, O Lord, that my feet may be merciful,

so that I may hurry to assist my neighbor.

Help me, O Lord, that my heart may be merciful, so that I myself

may feel all the sufferings of my neighbor.

May Your mercy, O Lord, rest upon me.

Amen. Please keep my volunteers (and me) in your prayers as we continue our work.

Special Need of the Week: Men’s casual shoes/sneakers in sizes 11 – 13.
